3 Lessons I learned about blogging this past year

Today marks the 1 year anniversary since the official launch of the www.theladyt.com. In an honor of this milestone, I wanted to make a blog post on the 3 lessons I learned this past year in regards to blogging.

1) It is easier said than done

The number one blogging lesson I learned, not just this past year, but from the moment I thought about creating this blog, is that as with anything in life, blogging is easier said than done. When the idea of blogging first got engrained in my mind, I figured taking photos, posting them on the gram, and linking outfit details could not be very difficult. But I quickly learned that the glamorous end-result of blogs and photos is accompanied by lots of back end hard work. From establishing a personal brand, finding a niche, and building a website, running a blog has not been an easy process. Especially when you don’t have the money to hire professionals and everything is self-taught. But in the information age we live in today, everything is a Google search or YouTube video away. Where there is a will, there is a way. Go get it done friends!

2) It requires lots of planning consistency

Although planning and consistency may sounds like the obvious, when it comes to executing any project, it’s not always easy to figure out the process and allocate the right amount of time to running a blog. Especially considering that blogging is not my full-time job and I need to balance it out with my day to day busy life of work, family, school, and social life. It takes a lot of discipline to plan, prep and schedule the right amount of time for outfit ideas, photoshoots, edits, blog posts, and other unanticipated tasks. But at the end of the day, as I said before, where there is a will, there is a way. It’s all feasible.

3) Don’t fall victim to the pressure

The most important lesson of all is learning not to fall victim to the pressure that comes from friends, family, or society at large. When you embark on a journey of creating a public content, everyone seems to have an opinion as to how you should go about executing your idea. However, while it is important to listen to the input of others, it is essential to stay grounded to your vision and bring your own ideas to life. Living in a society where competition is celebrated, it so easy to lose track of what you are doing and put yourself in unnecessary competition with others. Instead of staying true to yourself, you find yourself mimicking everyone else. However, it is important to stay unique and be able to create your own personal spectrum of content…and take your time in doing so. There is no rush to the finish line. The joy always lies in the journey, and not the destination.
